Robin Hood Episode 2 on MGM+ Features a Shockingly Brutal Death
The first two episodes of Robin Hood have been released on MGM+, and viewers are already reeling from a surprisingly brutal death. The episode’s plot twist has left fans stunned, and series creator Jonathan English has revealed why this particular cliffhanger is his favorite.
Rob (played by Jack Patten) flees into Sherwood Forest after a confrontation with the Earl of Huntingdon (Steve Waddington), who was responsible for his father’s death. There, he meets the Sheriff of Nottingham’s (Sean Bean) head of guards, who presents him with an ultimatum. If Rob can hit a target with his bow and arrow, he will be allowed to leave unharmed. However, if he misses, his weapons will be confiscated.
Rob agrees to the challenge and successfully hits the target. However, the guards then accuse him of killing one of the King’s deer without permission, leading to a violent confrontation. In the ensuing fight, Rob kills the chief guard, setting off a chain of events that will have far-reaching consequences.
A Conversation with Jonathan English
English reveals that each cliffhanger in the series is designed to move Rob’s character forward and build up the mythology of Robin Hood. “They’re all designed to bring you back, but they’re designed in such a way that they’re an organic part of the narrative,” he explains. “I mean, they’re not just cheap writer tricks. Each cliffhanger is about moving Rob’s character to the next level of what we know about Robin Hood.”
English’s co-creator, John Glenn, also shares his thoughts on the series’ cliffhangers. “Episode 6 is such a great cliffhanger. I love the end of that episode,” he says. While the full reveal will have to wait for another four weeks, it’s clear that the creators have put a lot of thought into crafting a compelling narrative with unexpected twists and turns.
The series’ ability to balance action, drama, and suspense has made it a must-watch for fans of the Robin Hood legend. With its well-developed characters, engaging storyline, and shocking plot twists, it’s no wonder that the show has already generated a lot of buzz.
